Cheerleading is a fast paced, dynamic sport that encompasses stunt, tumbling, tosses and dance & requires dedication and a strong work ethic from the male and female athletes that participate. It is as physically demanding as any other mainstream sport and is one of the fastest growing team based athletic sports in the USA and Australia.
A lot of people ask, 'what is competitive cheerleading?'
Competitive cheerleading is a sport like no other - an addictive mix of gymnastics, dance and acrobatics which combines to make an action packed and exciting routine, which appeals to children and adults alike, because it requires determination, extreme team work and mostly because it's seriously fun!
Upstage offers competitive cheerleading teams in Carrum Downs for all abilities from ages 3 to adult in levels 1,2,3. No experience is needed and everyone makes a team at Upstage.
All students are placed in a cheer or dance team which suits them best, with athletes of the same ability and age.
Competitive cheerleading teams generally train from 1 to 4 hours per week, as a cheerleading routine contains many elements which take time to develop, including jump sequences, tumbling passes, stunts (cheer lifts), tosses, pyramids and motions. Throughout the year the team’s coach works on increasing each element’s difficulty and complexity to keep each athlete engaged and challenged. Extra tumble and flyers classes are offered. (Refer to timetable)
While a great deal of commitment is required, this is rewarded by the physical and emotional growth that students experience and the close friendships that are formed on the cheer mat.
